Children Law Solicitors
When parents cannot agree about a child, the legal issue must be translated into a safe and workable plan. We advise on where children live, time with each parent, major decisions and urgent protective applications.

Private children proceedings
The Family Court focuses on the child's welfare rather than either parent's preferred outcome. Clear proposals about routines, school, handovers, communication and safety usually matter more than broad allegations or labels.
- Child Arrangements Orders
- Prohibited Steps and Specific Issue Orders
- Parental responsibility
- Relocation and enforcement
Urgent and safeguarding cases
Urgent applications may be appropriate where there is an immediate risk of removal, harm or a unilateral decision affecting a child. The evidence, urgency and notice requirements must be assessed carefully before an application is made.
Common questions
Do I normally need to attend a MIAM before applying?
Usually, although exemptions may apply in cases involving urgency, domestic abuse or other specified circumstances.
Does the court automatically favour one parent?
No. The court applies the welfare test and considers the child's individual circumstances rather than automatically favouring mothers or fathers.
